This is the best stain!!! Especially for cedar, and I'm sure for other woods. I used the Defy Stain for Hardwoods - Light Walnut on a new 7 ft board on board cedar fence in Dallas, TX area. Paid the extra for the clear - no knots pickets on my fence 3 1/2 years ago and it still looks LIKE NEW. The Walnut color was the only one that make cedar look good, the cedar to orange, and the pine too light. Some neighbors put up a fence as the same time and used the regular fence stain - guess what - they have had to re-stain again. The sprinkler system hits the fence and has no washing away effect on the fence like regular stain. No loss of color or fading in the direct hot sun either. The only minor note negative is that for my 2x4, 2x6, and 2x12 boards, it did not hold as well. It may not have penetrated into the wood deep enough as it did on the pickets. So some re-stain is in order, but it will be almost 4 years! Cost me $1100 to stain it, but the extra cost has been worth it. Contractor wanted to charge $400, and I'd be paying another $400, so in the long run the cost is worth it. Use a low pressure, high volume sprayer and back brush well after the applications. A lot easier with two people, I did it myself in two days with 30 gallons.
